What is PET Spunbond Nonwoven Fabric?
Aug 27,2025

PET spunbond nonwoven fabric is a type of nonwoven fabric produced by the spunbonding process using polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as the raw material. It combines the characteristics of PET materials with the advantages of the spunbonding process, and is widely used in various fields.

  • What is PET?

PET is a common linear saturated polyester resin, featuring high strength, high temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and easy recyclability. Besides being used in the production of non-woven fabrics, PET is also an important raw material for making beverage bottles, clothing fibers (such as polyester), films, and other products.

Melt of raw materials: Put the PET chips (granular raw materials) into the extruder and heat them to a molten state (the melting point of PET is approximately 250-260℃).

Spinning: The molten PET melt is extruded through the spinneret (which has a large number of tiny nozzles) to form continuous long filaments (with a diameter typically ranging from 10 to 30 micrometers).

Stretching and laying: Using high-speed air flow, the long filaments are stretched to make them finer and straighter. Then, they are evenly spread out on the conveyor belt to form a fluffy fiber net.

Bonding and reinforcement: Through methods such as hot rolling (high-temperature roller compression) or hot air penetration, the fibers are fixed together through fusion bonding or mechanical entanglement, forming an absorbent fabric with certain strength.

  • The advantages of PET spunbond non-woven fabric

The performance of PET spunbond non-woven fabric is jointly determined by the raw materials and the manufacturing process. It mainly includes high strength, high temperature resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, resistance to organic solvents, breathability, water resistance, and environmental friendliness.

  • The application fields of PET spunbond non-woven fabric

PET spunbond non-woven fabric is widely used in fields such as healthcare, packaging, agriculture, and industry.

  • The differences from other non-woven fabrics

Compared with the common PP (polypropylene) spunbond non-woven fabric, PET spunbond non-woven fabric has higher temperature resistance, strength, and UV resistance, but the cost is slightly higher; while compared with the needled non-woven fabric, it has a denser structure and a smoother surface, which is suitable for scenarios with higher requirements for appearance and strength.
